Wild Card of the Week: Influences All Signs
Tanah Lot, Bali
Tanah Lot, the "Land within the Sea" is a temple dedicated to the Balinese Sea Deities. It is protected by serpents and its main teaching is one of liberation. Release all that no longer serves you in order to be free of suffering and limitations.
Aries: March 21 - April 19
Temple of Isis at Aswan, Egypt
The Temple of Isis was situated along the Nile River for millennia. However, due to the construction of the Aswan dam, the temple risked destruction and so was painstakingly moved stone by stone to a safer location. This dismantling is reminiscent of the dismembering of Osiris, husband to Isis. She too, painstakingly gathered the parts of Osiris in order to reconstruct him. Sometimes, we need to fall apart, in order to be rebuilt. This type of healing, though painful, can make us stronger and more whole than we were before.
Taurus: April 20 - May 20
Death Valley, California
Consistently the hottest place on Earth, Death Valley may appear desolate… and yet life is teeming here. As the sun sets and temperatures drop, the dessert comes alive with wild life. Animals, plants and insects have had to adapt to the harsh environment. Our own lives may seem bleak at times, we may feel unable to go on but remember, the environment is telling us this is a time to rest. You are resilient, take some down time now and you will then be able to flourish once more suitable conditions arrive.
Gemini: May 21 - June 20
Fushimi Inari Grand Shrine, Japan
Built in the 8th century, this temple, dedicated to the God of rice, radiates joy and abundance. Festivals held here reflect the cycles of rice growing, from planting to harvest. Look to your own life, what seeds will you choose to plant, nurture and harvest. Acknowledge and celebrate every step in the process as you move through your own cycles.
Cancer: June 21 - July 22
Machu Picchu, Peru
Nestled on a mountain ridge high up in the Andes, lies the abandoned city of Machu Picchu. Along with residences and temples, the site also harbours numerous observatories. The incredible heights make it an ideal location to observe celestial events, especially the cycles of the solar and lunar years. Sometimes we are too close to events to see them clearly. Step far back in order to gain a greater perspective.
Leo: July 23 - August 22
My Favourite Place
We all have that one special place, a place which resonates so deeply with us that we return to it again and again. In this place, we feel safe, we feel at peace, we feel empowered. In this place, masks fall away and we are able to fully embrace our authentic and true self, to be the Goddess we are. Go to your favourite place if you can, or, if not in person, journey there in your mind. Remember what it feels like to be a true Goddess and carry that feeling within you wherever you go.
Virgo: August 23 - September 22
The "Navel of the Earth" was one of the most power‐filled sites of ancient Greece. No major decisions could be made without first consulting the Priestesses for an oracle. If there are decisions to be made in your life, look within for guidance. Be open and receptive to your intuitive abilities. Listen to your inner knowing and you will find the answers you seek.
Libra: September 23 - October 22
Mecca, Saudi Arabia
The holiest place in Islam is home to the Kaaba, a small building housing a black stone. This ancient relic had been revered as a symbol of the Goddess Al Lat. The Kaaba is the heart of Islam. It is the center around which pilgrims circumnavigate during the Hadj, and the direction they face during daily prayers. Look to your own center, the holiest of holies within you. How do you honour the sacred place within you? Perhaps it is time to make a pilgrimage to the heart of your soul.
Scorpio: October 23 - November 21
We are all familiar with the myth of the Trojan War. The city of Troy was lost to us, relegated to fantasy until its rediscovery in the 19th century. What was once thought to be a myth became a reality. We can apply this to our own lives, creating the myths we want for ourselves and making them a reality. What does your personal story look like? What would you like to change? You are the author of your story, no one else can write it for you.
Sagittarius: November 22 - December 21
Avebury Standing Stones, England
Avebury, the largest stone circle in the world, is actually made up of three concentric rings. The processional route takes one deeper and deeper within the henge, as well as deeper within oneself. At the center, we come to the place of knowledge. Seek within, to the deepest parts of yourself, for you carry hidden knowledge which may be useful and beneficial to your life.
Capricorn: December 22 - January 19
Obsidian Wall, Yellowstone Park
Yellowstone is most notable as the site of "Old Faithful" but it is also home to another spectacular phenomenon. The Obsidian Walls were created when flowing lava cooled suddenly, forming cliffs. The black stone has long been used in sacred rituals and it's hardness made it ideal for weapons. There is a possibility your defenses will be assailed this week. It may be beneficial to carry obsidian with you or keep some on your altar to ensure protection.
Aquarius: January 20 - February 18
Wollumbin (Mount Warning), Australia
Mount Wollumbin (Cloud Catcher) is one of the most sacred places in Australia. Created by a volcanic eruption 20 million years ago, it remains a powerful reminder of the awesome force of nature. The mountain creates its own weather system, catching the sun light and clouds, so that its colours are forever changing throughout the day. We too are constantly transforming, letting go of some things while attracting others. We are in a constant state of flux, but rather than see this as chaotic and disruptive, we can choose to embrace it, for this transformation is what creates the beauty we manifest in the world.
Pisces: February 19 - March 20
Lake Wanaka, New Zealand
Lake Wanaka is surrounded by mountains, and, at its heart, a small island holds an even smaller lake. The Maori consider this sacred site as a living entity, a place of serenity and transformational power. Look to your own center, reach for that still, small space within. Discover your own place of stillness and it will offer comfort from the chaotic world around you.
