Weekly Tarot Zodiac
October 21st through October 27th, 2019
This reading was done by Lunaria, who is working on completing her Level II studies with the Sisters of the Rising Moon, using the Everyday Witch Tarot by Deborah Blake and Elisabeth Alba, in honor of Samhain.
It feels like such a privilege to serve you all in this way. Thank you for being so patient with me, as I am a beginner at reading for others. In case you are not familiar with this deck, I'll give a brief description of each card. Please note that I have used the term witch for females and wizards for males (á la Harry Potter).
Wild Card of the Week: Influences All Signs
10 of Wands
We see a witch trudging up a steep mountain path carrying 10 broomsticks. She looks tired.
Interpretation: Are we doing too much? Perhaps carrying burdens that belong to others? Or carrying cosmic burdens that should only be carried by many? What burdens can we put down? What burdens can we share with others, so that we are not alone in carrying them? And what burdens are we carrying that rightly belong to others? If you have a chance to lighten your load this week, take it!
Aries: March 21 - April 19
8 of Cups
A witch is walking away from a table full of golden cups. She carries only her broomstick and a bag. Her cat walks beside her.
Interpretation: Lots of people would say she is crazy for walking away from all that fortune! To go where? Into some unknown wilderness! But she must; she is in search of that which fills her soul. Are there 'treasures' that are limiting you? Causing you to feel responsible, to spend time and energy on things that do not satisfy? Can you walk away? Should you walk away? These are the questions this card asks. It is not a card of assurances ∥we have no idea how her adventure will turn out), but a card of adventure. Or, since cups are about feelings, perhaps what she is really leaving behind are her emotions about various situations in her life. Maybe she's returning home… but without the baggage of emotions that do not serve her.
Taurus: April 20 - May 20
4 of Pentacles
A wizard sits on what looks like a treasure chest inscribed with four pentacles. Money is scattered on the floor. His cat looks out the open window, in search of treasures of his own…
Interpretation: Are you worrying about money, like the young man on the card? If so, how can you comfort yourself? First, take accurate stock of your situation. Are you in financial trouble right now? Or are you worrying about the future? This young man apparently has plenty, but doesn't realize it. It might be time to make an accurate accounting. And don't get so bound up in material concerns that you forget to look out the window and delight in the gifts of autumn.
Gemini: May 21 - June 20
6 of Pentacles
We see a witch smiling and on one side of her is a boy, probably a student, as he is wearing glasses and school books are at his feet. On the other side is an older woman with a basket of food and looking up at the central figure beseechingly. The rays behind them indicate that something good is being done here.
Interpretation: Like the beneficent witch in the middle, give of your wealth to those who ask of you (maybe those Tauruses above ‐ unless they're just worrying needlessly). Consider the recipient and their actual needs. She is giving coins to the student (what student doesn't need money?) and food to the old woman. How can you ease the suffering of others? What do the recipients actually need? Whatever you do, do it with a generous heart and you will be a blessing.
Cancer: June 21 - July 22
The Wheel of Fortune
A witch stands by a wheel like you might see on a game show. She is about to spin it. The options on the wheel include love, money, learning, health, a home… all hopeful possibilities. On the floor, the cat plays with a pair of dice.
Interpretation: Round and round she goes, and where she stops, nobody knows! Be alert. The world needs more alerts. Seriously, though, it looks like something good might be just about to happen to you; a gift from the universe. You don't want to miss it! The cat playing with the dice seems to say that there may well be a random quality to what you receive. Be on the lookout. It might not be what you expect.
Leo: July 23 - August 22
Ace of Swords
A witch thrusts a sword into the air where birds fly exuberantly. Her broomstick lies on the ground. Her cat is looking upward… clearly having thoughts about those birds.
Interpretation: Seize the day, the thought, this moment! An idea might come to you that will change your life! Everything about this card is fortuitous. You are being given an opportunity. Has someone suggested something you dismissed out of hand? Have your attitudes about the suggestion changed? Examine all offers that come your way. This week, you hold the power. Use it well.
Virgo: August 23 - September 22
21 The World
A witch tosses her hat into the air while sitting at the seashore, one foot in the water. A cottage sits behind her. The cat has stationed himself by the picnic basket where food and a fancy drink await.
Interpretation: Lucky you! The world is, as they say, your oyster. It's time to take a break and celebrate your accomplishments! You deserve it. This week pay attention to any little moments when you can break open the bubbly and rest on your laurels. You have been working hard and the outcome of all that effort is assured. Congratulations!
Libra: September 23 - October 22
3 of Wands
A witch stands on a cliff above the ocean, casting a spell with her wand. Her cat is fascinated. It is one of those liminal times of day ‐ sunset or sunrise ‐ and the artist has added a whimsical lizard climbing over her broomstick which lies at her feet.
Interpretation: Have you been working on something for a while? Don't give up now! Trust in your magic, your will, your energy to accomplish what you have set out to do. You are well prepared for success. Focus on enjoying the process as you bring your project to completion. You have all you need to accomplish what you want to do.
Scorpio: October 23 - November 21
6 of Cups
We see a garden and in it a wizard hands a young witch a cauldron full of red flowers. A pond with pink lotuses is nearby. A black cat is watching all this, while the witch's calico paws at her, anxious to see the gift.
Interpretation: Are you the giver or the receiver? It doesn't matter. From the expressions on their faces, it is clear that this act of kindness fills them both with joy. Notice the little kindnesses that come your way this week and pay them forward ☺. Or start your own avalanche of kindness. Your cup will overflow. It should be noted that the pink lotus is also a sign of enlightenment. Wouldn't it be funny if, after all our esoteric studies, the only thing we really need is to be kind to one another and our spirits would blossom like the lotus…
Sagittarius: November 22 - December 21
Queen of Cups
A pregnant witch holds a conch shell full of water at the ocean's edge. Fish leap in the water. One cat plays with the drops that fall from the shell, while the other nestles her kittens comfortably on the Queen's throne.
Interpretation: Is there a generous‐hearted soul in your life who nurtures you? Or are you she? The Queen here is the very essence of compassion and intuitive caring. If someone in your life serves this function, you are incredibly fortunate! Or maybe several people fulfill it. If you are the one who holds space for others, delight in your own big heart. You are making everyone around you happy. Be sure to enjoy yourself too ☺
Capricorn: December 22 - January 19
A witch and a wizard hold hands before a campfire in the woods. The two cats in front of the fire have their tails entwined in the shape of a heart.
Interpretation: This card shows the union of those whose appearance would suggest they are opposites, but whose hearts are one. It is time to look inward and outward, toward our commonalities more than our differences. This week, notice your allies, those who stand with you. Be aware that our enemies might not be enemies if they had known love. Love even the dark places in yourself. Somehow, opposites aren't really; look at a mobius strip. It LOOKS like it has two sides, but there is really only one. What if this is only superficially a world of polarities, while at our essence, we are one? What can you unify, inwardly or outwardly, this week?
Aquarius: January 20 - February 18
5 of Pentacles
It is snowing and a witch holds a lantern in her hand as she fights against the wind. Beside her is a child, sheltered by her cape. The cat hunkers down in the snow, conserving energy. Ahead is a stately Tudor style cottage, its windows shining.
Interpretation: Do you feel like you've been left out in the cold by someone, or by nature of your circumstances? This might be a time to put away your pride and ask for help. Ask for what you need from those who have more. Your circumstances (the snowstorm) are not your fault. Don't give up. There is help available, despite the harshness of your experiences. You are not alone, and someone will help. It will not always be snowing.
Pisces: February 19 - March 20
5 of Swords
Three witches stand at a cauldron out of which 3 swords fly. Two of the witches are distraught. The third looks proud; she is holding two swords and perhaps the others are coming to her. Their 3 cats are with them, one with his paw on the grimoire.
Interpretation: It's an important time to remember to cooperate with you friends and colleagues. You don't want to 'win' at the cost of friendship or trust. This week, focus on what is good for everyone and creating win‐win situations. It's no fun to come out on top if you have no one to share your victory with.
