Beltane
Beltane symbolizes the "Bright Fire" that burns within us all. It is a time when we honour our sexual nature and revel in the glory that is our body.
At Beltane, we honour Goddess as Virgin in the true sense of the word, "She Who is Whole unto Herself". When we feel whole, we are no longer reliant on other people's opinions of us. We stand, secure and confident in the knowledge that we are beautiful, created in Her image. Create rituals honouring the Goddess that you are. Perform self‐blessings, be naked in front of a mirror, without judgment, love the Temple where Goddess lives. Know and trust that you are whole unto yourself, a Goddess in your own right.
Explore your body, your lover, your life, in a sensuous and sexual way. The Virgin is fearless, let Her guide you to glorious heights. For The Charge states… "all acts of love and pleasure are Her rituals".
Litha
At Litha we honour the transformation of the Maiden into Mother, fertile and ripe with potential. The Earth is alive, teeming with life, growth and vibrant energy. Celebrate the season with action, manifest into reality the seeds of ideas that you have dreamt about through the dark months. Create rituals that fire your passion, enhance creativity. All that we do honours Goddess.

OWM is a global organization, with Sisters in countries around the world, including the Southern Hemisphere. The Wheel of the Year is reversed for our Southerly Sisters. To ensure we remain inclusive, we would like to share some information about the Holy Days that pertain specifically to them.
Samhain and Yule
Samhain
At Samhain, the Crone comes into Her own. As the dark of night noticeably lengthens, so too grows the power of the Dark Feminine principle. Crone is calling us to journey within, to a place of stillness. Though the path is dark, She will light the way. This is an ideal time for Solitary Magick, Divination, Communing with the Ancestors, and Dreamwork.
Ask yourself:
What is it that I choose to leave behind, and what is it that I will take with me as I move forward?
Whom do I need to forgive? From whom do I need to ask forgiveness?
How can I best honour the Crones in my life?
Yule
Yule marks the spiritual rebirth of the Maiden. She has resided with Crone since Samhain and is now preparing to emerge into the light. The Maiden recognizes Her own mortality as She honours Her part in the cycles of life‐death‐rebirth. This is a season of faith and hope, and of waiting patiently. In the darkest depths of the longest night, we trust that the light, though unseen, will return. Yule is an ideal time to look within, to reflect on one's own childhood. Revel in the innocent wonder of Yuletides past. Offer guidance, protection and healing to that younger self.
Ask yourself:
What am I envisioning and hoping for?
How do I nurture a state of awe and wonder?
What can I do to create space for Goddess in my community?

Body of Ritual
Either indoors or outdoors draw your circle wide and make sure you have everything with you.
Dip the Birch branches into the spring water and cleanse the area.
If you are experienced in shamanic journeying you can drum ‐ if you cannot, play a recording of shamanic drums. They usually have a tone that takes you back from your journey at the end.
Walk around the circle, dance and chant if you like ‐ be playful and open 😊
Move faster and swirl around if you like, and, when you feel tired, lay down and close your eyes.
Feel the warmth of a sunny day and the sounds and scents of a meadow.
You are protected, you are loved and fillled with bliss… Now let your imagination take over,
be open to whom or what you meet on your journey…
After the journey meditate over what you experienced and write down on the ribbons what you wish to manifest.
Hold them in your hand and give it power (like food for the seeds to grow…)
Inscribe your wishes on the green candle.
You may write the wishes or create sigils representing the wish.
To create a sigil, write the wish down and take out all double letters until you have only single letters remaining.
Now write them together in a way that you cannot tell the letters anymore and put a frame around it.
Hold the ribbon and the candle in your hands and raise energy.
Feel how the energy moves to your hands, into the sigils and then activates them.
Give thanks and open the circle .
Now it's time to celebrate and have some of the gorgeous May punch…
Bind the ribbons to a tree on your balcony garden or a park, forest ‐ whatever works for you where you live ‐ if there is no tree you can bind them on a wooden staff 😊
Burn the candle every day/night until the next full moon . You can cut small lines into the candle so that it makes 7 parts ‐ the last one will burn to the end on the 7th of May.

Rhiannon, horse goddess, the truth will set you free.
Rhiannon was falsely accused of devouring her own child and ordered to sit at the gates of the kingdom, tell her crime to all who approach, and carry them on her back to court. She pays her sentence until her son finally returns.
How many of us, women, have been falsely accused? In Patriarchal societies, simply being born as a woman is enough to be condemned, or at best, only belittled.
The story goes that the beautiful goddess was enjoying nature on her horse when the lord of a nearby kingdom, Pwyll, sees her and desires her. He rides his horse as fast as he can to catch her, but to no avail. When he finally asks her to stop, she willingly does. They get married and have a son. Three days after his birth, the baby disappears during the night. The nursemaids in charge of the child, in their panic and fear of being accused, smear Rhiannon's lips with puppy blood to convince her sin of devouring the child. Rhiannon is convicted guilty of infanticide and receives a seven‐year sentence to stay at the gates of the kingdom where she is to repent for her crime. She carries out her sentence until the moment of truth finally comes when her child returns. She then takes her seat at the throne once again.
Injustice has been in our lives. Our feminine nature was accused and condemned, denounced as the mark of the devil, like Lilith who becomes a demon by the professed sin of eating children. Profanity of the devouring mother, she who kills her children. The darkest of the dark, a woman must be accused of such sins for declaring wrong the nature of her gender: the black, the bad, the dangerous; as if one needed to be superior.
When Rhiannon is at the gate of the Kingdom telling her story of being accused to kill her child, would she not get confused? Insidiously, we identify with the story we are told about who we are, eventually believing we are to be blamed; shame we carry, suffering we must endure. Rhiannon, as a Goddess executes her sentence with the dignity of the horse and faith in the truth. Steadily, her transformation occurs, even though we can imagine how at first she might have been outraged by the false accusation, furious and rebellious like a wild horse resisting taming. Haven't we all felt disgust by injustice? But how do we respond?
When faced with an injustice, do you rebel, expressing fierce anger? Or do you repress your anger, afraid of its effect and the consequences you may receive for it? Do you feel victimized and respond with depression? Or do you try to appease the impostor by pleasing him?
Our attitude while facing challenges is often the only choice we have, but the one choice that makes a tremendous difference. It is healthy to feel anger when faced with an injustice, at best we shall express our anger as a direct and immediate response to protect or defend ourselves. If we do so, our nervous system has the chance to complete its response to the perceived threat; if we don't for particular reasons, the incomplete traumatic response stays in the body and loops around itself until the next opportunity appears for resolution. When anger has been repressed, our power is repressed. We walk the path of our life pretending rather than fully being our true self.
While steadily carrying out her sentence, Rhiannon is humbled. The wild horse is tamed. Her proud and perhaps arrogant self, the beautiful maiden riding free who said yes to Pwyll to avoid the marriage with Gwawl, is cleansed and transformed. Her story is one of rebirth.
We shall ponder deeper into her sentence, and certainly Rhiannon did herself. Was her heart at the right place when she married Pwyll? Didn't she do so to avoid marrying Gwawl who tricked her into an engagement? Wasn't she filled with narcistic glory? The great Goddess' intention for her kin is of Oneness, beyond the illusion and falsehood of separation, the realization and actualization of the Heart of All There Is. In the mundane reality of earthly existence, Rhiannon is wrongly accused, she is invited into the dark side of duality, a seven‐year Dark Night of the Soul as a pre‐requisite to her rebirth. What appears as an injustice may be a disguised blessing for us to evolve.
She must tell her story over and over and carry burdens on her back. The horse Goddess tells us our beliefs are imprinted in our body, and thus can be accessed there to be transformed.
The seven years of her sentence symbolizes the seven chakras: the seven energetic gates in the body shall be opened for us to awaken with the buoyancy of the horse ‐ freedom and strength.
Feel within your body, the truth of your being, your authenticity, and ultimately your sovereignty.
Enter the seven vortexes, one by one, and find the key that unleashes their power.
In the substance of your physical form reside the stigmas of your past, feel them with the strength and courage of the horse.
Physical sensations are gateways to the stories that define us, stories are held in the tissues, running and looping in the vortex of our beliefs. As we enter the vortex through the physical sensations, we enter the knot of our limited story. In the knot there is an impulse, a heat, a contained fire only awaiting the spaciousness of our loving awareness for burning freely and consuming the old. As so rebirth happens.
During her long dark night of the soul, Rhiannon learns humility. As she comes back to her throne as a Queen, with a strong and substantial body, she is centered in her heart, she is at peace; she is calm; she is caring; she is loving. She is the Queen ready now to lead from her heart, kind and benevolent, connected in the All There Is.
Keep steady on your path of transformation, courageous and determined like a horse. The truth sets you free.

The Isle of Women: Kihnu, Estonia
Kihnu, an island in the Baltic Sea, is often referred to as the Isle of Women. It is home to 600 residents, but only 300 (mostly women) live there year‐round. The women consider themselves a matriarchal society, they govern the island while the men are away at sea for months at a time. It is the women who take charge of the daily living on the island, they repair farm equipment, plant and harvest, shear sheep, make clothes, rear children. As well, they act as guardians of Kihnu traditions and culture.
In Kihnu, folk traditions are part of everyday life and women play a key role in preserving this culture. Women gather at each other's homes, or at the community centre, to cook, knit, dance and, while doing these activities, they sing traditional songs. Elders pass on these songs to the younger generations, and children are taught traditional musical instruments at school. The music has its origins in pre‐Christian times and is known as runic singing. As the custodians, most women typically have a large repertoire of songs, and some are believed to be at least 1000 years old.
For the women of Kihnu, life is seasonal ‐ farm work, fieldwork, and fishing are all dependent on the weather. In Kihnu, the religion is a mixture of appreciation and awe of nature, as well as church and folklore. Alongside the holy days of the Christian calendar, are the dates that celebrate the beginning of seasonal planting, harvesting, and sheep shearing. The lives of the islanders are deeply intertwined with nature. Many of the patterns used in traditional clothing have come from nature, such as oak chestnuts, flowers and leaf motifs. Some patterns, like the kaheksakand (snake‐pattern) are meant to be protective.
The colourful dress of the Kihnu is a long‐standing cultural tradition. It is common for women to wear traditional skirts (kört) and kerchiefs every day. These clothes are made in a variety of vibrant colours, and, woven along the bottom of every kört, is a red ribbon of protection. Creating these stunning clothes can be time‐consuming and difficult, so traditionally, women gather together to share the work… and sing.
The women of Kihnu are used to hard labour and hard times, 50 years of Soviet occupation, the men away for long periods. The harsh winters cut the island off from the rest of the world for months at a time. But it is this isolation that has prevented their customs from dying out. Their traditions remain at risk however, as more and more young people leave the island to find work on the mainland. Life has been hard for Kihnu women, but their reliance on each other is their greatest strength.
UNESCO proclaimed Kihnu's cultural space and traditions as a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity on November 7, 2003

We were saddened to hear of the sudden passing of one of our Dearest Sisters, HP Mystic Amazon, lovingly called Bethy by those who knew her intimately. She was a poet, a teacher and mentor, a vibrant and wise Crone. We will miss her presence in our Order.
Below are a few of her poems
With a smile and a wave, she was out the door;
I didn't know that I wouldn't see her again.
She was an older woman, a good friend of my
Parents. I can't go back now and tell her how
Much I cared about her, and what she meant
To my life.
Moving a lot and not having roots, can be a
Disadvantage in some ways. Sometimes never
Finding out what happened to loved ones,
When leaving the town behind. The teachers
That brought understanding, the friends that
Played hopscotch, so many beloved people.
It is a comfort (sometimes the only comfort)
To know that I will see them again after this
Life; that they will be there on the Other Side.
For now, all I can do is my best to be caring
And supportive of the people I love, and to
Tell them of my love, often.
Also, it is good to know that those we are
Unable to smooth over quarrels within this life,
Will be there too. And surely there will be
Plenty of time to mend things there, in the
Otherworld. Our guardian angels will be
There too, so that we can thank them for
Their care of us.

I am homesick for a different place
And time; and I must leave here.
This world has grown plain and tired
And I am only existing in it.
I long for brighter places and wilder
Songs; traveling into far‐away lands.
Everything will be new and unexpected.
Love might peek just around the corner
Laughing with his hand over his mouth,
And impish eyes; an elf indeed.
When every day is just the same, why
Then, something must be done, or else
I will turn to dust…loved ones are too
Far away, I must needs find some closer.
If you want to come with me you can,
But I have decided where I will go.
I will go into the Celtic Otherworld,
To look at fabulous sights that have
Not been seen in many ages. Faeries are
There, and leprechauns, and wondrous
Beasts like griffins. Would you like to
Fly on one? I would avoid the Sphinx
Though, they look too fierce and being
Feminine, would be harder on a woman.
I trail my fingers in the water, as we
Drift along in a boat. I see faces
That come up a little in the lake, just
To look at us.
They know that I have to leave the
Ordinary world and come to theirs, where
They can come up and speak to me, and I
To them. Before, I was turning to the
Dust that I came from, quiet and still.
Come with me, there is only a certain
Time frame, then the portal will be closed.
I have been yours in this world, but now
If you do not go with me, other men will
Call my name; and I will perhaps become
As they are, a faery. They are more
Light of heart there, and some say that
They are not burdened with a soul.
I will look for you at the time to leave;
But I will not wait. Come hold me now…
Live with me there, or stay and become
Only dust.

Great Pan, we hear you
Piping in the meadows…
You are father to the animals,
Consort to lithe Diana
And a Muse of Mother Nature.
Oh dance before the Moon
Skyclad in your rites,
For Pan and Diana join us
This glorious Beltane night!
Son of mischievous Hermes,
With beautiful, sensuous voice
Kind eyes, and merry laughter;
Bring fairies and nature spirits
To dance with us tonight.
Oh, dance before the Moon
Skyclad in your rites,
For Pan and Diana join us
This glorious Beltane night!

Prayer for Understanding for Mother and Daughter
Great Goddess I come before You,
Humbly, yet within my power.
I ask for understanding
Between a mother and her daughter.
Heal the wounds that between them lie,
Bring their hearts in touch again.
There is much uncertainty between them,
Replace that with trust and togetherness.
Great Goddess, my heart aches
At the division between these two.
A child is being deprived of her grandma.
This is too terribly sad to let stand.
Trust and love, love and trust.
Heartache before You flies.
Wrap these three in Your loving arms.
As I will, so mote it be!

Beltane time has come again,
The Wheel has turned once more.
We bless the Goddess and the God,
The Great Rite they perform.
Dance around the Maypole,
Dance the Maypole 'round.
Weaving in and weaving out,
With ribbon the Pole is bound.
Wash your face this May Day morn
In the fresh, first morning dew
Freckles they will wash away
And never come back to you.
Dance for love and dance desire
Dance for what we need.
For things to grow and then to bloom,
Dance fertility!

When the veil between worlds becomes paper thin
There are spirits about and adventures begin
As the bonfires flicker and stories are told
Don't go a'wanderin, if you can't find the road
Look through the hagstone and what do you see?
Fearsome little men and their tiny ladies
Twirling and leaping in and out of my sights
Raucously prowling this Midsummer's night
(Chorus)
The Midsummer March is well on its way
Put iron in your pockets to keep them away
Turn clothes inside out, don't accept food or drink
Do mind your manners and sidestep those rings
Keep wits all about you until break of day
Don't follow their lights, you'll be stolen away
Such beautiful music, you'll be tempted to stray
Please just remember, do not trust the fae
There are pixies and brownies, and fire fae galore
Undines and Kelpies, who've come from the shores
Hobgoblins, red caps, the will o'the wisp
Clurichauns grumbling stumbling out of the mist
Ones from the flowers and ones from the trees
Some so unsightly, you'll drop to your knees
The seelie, so golden, The unseelie, so dark
Out of the way, they're all here for the March
(Chorus)
…
Oh my how delicious these berries do taste!
My feet, how they're dancing, such a tiresome pace
Can't seem to remember, what I'm doing today
Oh well, it's not important… anyway
Hey guys!? Where we goin?
I feel strange. What's this place?
I can't seem … I can't seem to
Remember my name
